SAN JOSE — A motorist was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Friday after he hit a police officer standing outside his patrol vehicle, then kept driving on a remote road in San Jose’s east foothills, authorities said.
The officer had just finished a traffic stop on Suncrest Avenue near Perie Lane, north of Alum Rock Park, at about12:40 a.m. when police say a Subaru sedan “traveling at an unsafe speed” hit him before he could get back into his SUV.
An eyewitness to the collision told AIO Filmz that he saw the officer on the ground, dazed with what appeared to be a cut on his head, and the Subaru take off north on Suncrest.
The officer, who is in his first year with the San Jose Police Department, was taken to a local hospital. Responding officers found the Subaru a short time later and arrested the driver, who was later identified as Johnathan Hall, a 27-year-old San Jose resident.
Officers arrested Hall on suspicion of felony hit and run and felony driving under the influence based on evidence at the scene, police said. Hall was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, where he is being held on $150,000 bail and has an arraignment tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
