If you’re like us, you love lists and rankings. The more the better. Bring it.
This summer, the pop culture-loving geeks at TVLine.com have been busy cranking out all kinds of lists as they strive to determine TV’s greatest teen couples, the best characters on “This Is Us,” etc. etc. It’s a pretty good use of all those shelter-in-place hours.
But one of the great things about lists is the arguments they can spark. And we have a feeling that many fans will find some fault with TV Line’s rankings of the best characters ever on “The Office.”
We’re not going to spoil their fun by revealing the whole list here. You’ll have to go to the website. But we will point out a few surprises, like:
— Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) just barely made the Top 10. Say, what? How about a little more respect for Big Tuna!
— And while we might question how relatively low Jim resides, we’ll also mildly dispute the high rankings for Mindy Kaling’s Kelly Kapoor (No. 6) and the enigmatic Creed Bratton (No. 5). Yes, we loved them both, but c’mon. Creed, especially, was the bittiest of bit characters (though we’ll never forget his Joker costume in Season 5).
— The TVLine crew clearly have something against James Spader’s Robert California, who was placed dead last in the No. 30 slot. They say “his weirdo antics quickly grew tiresome, and he never meshed with the rest of the ensemble.”
In explaining the rankings overall, TVLine points out: “These aren’t the characters we like the most, necessarily, but the richest, most intriguing characters that kept us watching… and laughing.”
And that’s what she said.
