Patriots at Jets betting guide 1

The Patriots and Jets square off on “Monday Night Football.”

The Story

Longtime AFC East rivals meet on Monday when the Patriots take a short flight to New Jersey to visit the Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

This will be the second divisional home game in the past 15 days for the winless Jets, who are coming off a 35-9 loss as a 20-point underdog to the Chiefs. New York entered that one coming off its first 2020 against-the-spread win, having held the favored Bills without a touchdown in an 18-10 loss to Buffalo in Week 7. The Jets have lost all eight of their 2020 games by more than 7 points.

The 2-5 Patriots, who come into this one on a four-game losing streak, haven’t won a game since September. They fell to 0-3 on the road in 2020 with a 24-21 loss as a 4-point underdog in Buffalo this past Sunday. This is the first time in 20 years New England has started a season with fewer than three victories over the team’s first seven games.

The Jets’ odds to beat Patriots are at +380 at FOX Bet Sportsbook, which implies New York has a 20.8 percent chance of winning. The Patriots are 10-point favorites.

The History

Although the Patriots have won each of the past eight meetings between the teams, there have been some close games in recent years. Although New York is just 2-12 against New England since the start of the 2013 season, the Jets are 8-5-1 against the spread in those 14 games.

FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering odds of +400 on each team to score 2+ TDs & 2+ FGs. A $10 bet on each team to score 2+ TDs & 2+ FGs would pay $50.

The Stars of the Show

The bright spot of the Jets’ season to this point has been the outstanding play of veteran receiver Jamison Crowder. After entering 2020 without a 100-yard receiving game since November 2017, Crowder has reached the century mark three times in the four games he’s played this season. He is expected to return to the lineup after having missed the past two games with a groin injury.

FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering +300 odds on Jamison Crowder to rack up 75 or more receiving yards and to score a touchdown against New England on Monday night.

On the other side of the field, second-year running back Damien Harris has two 100-yard rushing efforts in the four games he has played since returning from injured reserve. (Harris missed all of September with a hand injury.) He enters Week 9 as one of only six NFL players averaging more than 5.5 yards per carry on an average of more than 12 carries per game.

FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering +250 odds on Damien Harris to tally 75 or more rushing yards and to score a touchdown against the Jets on Monday night.
