Someone first spotted a device believed to be an old hand grenade at the bottom of a bluff at Openlands on April 6, according to Amanda Civitello, communications manager for Highland Park. Then on April 9, materials that may have originated from aircraft flares from World War II were discovered in the same area, she said.
