“Knucklehead” is a pet term of Murphy’s. In May 2020 he explained during a presser that the phrase referred to a “stupid, bumbling, inept” individual. Murphy said he’s considered using terms like “blockhead” and “numbskull,” but the third syllable in “knucklehead” gives in more “oomph.”
