A broadcast blunder by NBC made Kelly Stafford a trending Twitter topic on Sunday.
The internet roasted the network for misidentifying quarterback Matthew Stafford’s wife during the Rams’ 34-14 home-opening win over the Bears.
NBC broadcasters were discussing the Los Angeles quarterback when they put up a split screen that showed Stafford and a blonde one announcer claimed was his wife.
Nonetheless, the woman is actually a friend of the couple’s, and the real Kelly Stafford was standing right next to her. The pair were immersed in a conversation when NBC pointed them out.
The mistake quickly caught the attention of fans, along with NBC, which found Stafford’s wife and correctly identified her on the broadcast. The internet still pounced on the opportunity to grill the network.
“The NBC Broadcast team saw a few blonde women & were like ‘one of those has to be Kelly Stafford, right?’” one fan tweeted.
A separate tweet read, “Yup that’s def not Kelly Stafford… that’s embarrassing.”
“Oh no Kelly Stafford is going to be pissed,” another fan predicted in a tweet.
However, the real Kelly Stafford has not publicly acknowledged the mishap. Though, she did share a game-day photo to her Instagram Story with the couple’s four children — twin daughters Chandler and Sawyer, born in April 2016, 3-year-old daughter Hunter and one-year-old Tyler.
Despite the drama, it was a good day for Stafford. The Rams star finished 20-of-26 for 321 yards, three touchdowns and a career-best 156.1 passer rating.
