The federal education department will disburse the new funding, with amounts for each school based on the number of enrolled students receiving federal financial aid. Institutions must use a minimum amount of its funding to give students emergency aid grants and should prioritize students with “exceptional need,” according to the department. Students can spend the money on tuition, food, housing, health care or child care.
