Attorneys for Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane wanted Floyd’s arrest in May 2019, a year before the encounter that cost the Black man his life, to be presented to the jury. All four officers were fired following the May 25, 2020 incident in which Chauvin, who is white, kneeled on a handcuffed Floyd’s back even as he begged for air.
