An investigation is underway after Greeley police shot and injured a man with a gun while responding to a burglary alarm early Saturday morning.
About 3:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a burglary alarm in the 2100 block of 50th Avenue, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team. On arrival, officers heard gunshots coming from inside the house.
Minutes later, a man, who is not being named at this time, exited the house with a gun in his hand, the release states. Officers gave him commands and shot him.
One round struck the man, according to the release. Officers provided first aid at the scene until paramedics arrived. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
There is no ongoing threat to public safety. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact lead detective Lt. Thomas Sutter of the Eaton Police Department at 970-454-2212.
The shooting is the second officer-involved shooting in the past couple weeks, following a March 26 incident where Weld County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed 32-year-old Steven Michael Kielian near Gill after he fired at least on shot at the deputies in a pursuit. Both shooting are under investigation by the Critical Incident Response Team, a group of Weld law enforcement agencies that investigate officer-involved shootings.
