MINNEAPOLIS — George Floyd’s brother said he had been “praying” for Tuesday’s guilty verdict against Derek Chauvin, the ex-city cop who killed his sibling.
Trembling and weeping as the judge read the Minnesota’s jury’s verdict, Philonise Floyd told reporters minutes later, “I was just praying they would find him guilty,” according to KNKX public radio.
“As an African American, we usually never get justice,” the sibling said.

The lawyer for George Floyd’s relatives, Ben Crump, said in a statement, “Painfully earned justice has arrived for George Floyd’s family and the community here in Minneapolis.
“Justice for Black America is justice for all of America,” the statement said.
“This case is a turning point in American History for accountability of law enforcement and sends a clear message we hope is heard clearly in every city and every state.”
Floyd, a 44-year-old black man, was killed by Chauvin, a white cop, during a routine bust-turned-deadly in May that was caught on video and shocked the world, sparking massive protests.
