Former head nurse of Jacobi Medical Center psychiatric unit dies of coronavirus 1

The former head nurse of Jacobi Medical Center’s psychiatric unit and a Brooklyn pediatric nurse are among the latest city healthcare workers to die in the coronavirus crisis.

The death of Freda Ocran, 50, who previously led the Jacobi unit, was announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday.

Jacobi nurses had held a rally outside the hospital the day before demanding more protective gear.

The mayor said Ocran was “a psych educator” at Jacobi and had previously led the unit’s nurses.

He added that Ocran was a mom who supported her family — including “her mom, who lives in Africa. So, what a horrible loss for that family, that hospital, and our city.”

The mayor said a pediatric nurse at Kings County Hospital, longtime healthcare worker Theresa Lococo, also had perished in the city’s war against the contagion.
