DENVER, CO– Police have released a photo of three people wearing masks that they believe are in connection with setting a house fire back on August 5th that killed a family of five.

In the update on Tuesday, the Denver Police Department released a statement saying:

“The fire appeared to be deliberately set by three unknown individuals wearing dark hoodies and full-face masks who fled the area in a dark-colored 4-door sedan.”

The horrific incident tragically took the lives of Djibril Diol, 29, Adja Diol, 23, and their 3-year-old daugther, Djibril’s sister, Hassan Diol, 25, and her infant child, Hawa Beye who was just 7-months-old.  Colorado authorities are now offering a $14,000 reward in hopes of identifying the three masked individuals who set the house fire and took five innocent lives.

According to the Denver Fire Department, three other people, a man, woman, and child jumped from the second story of the home and survived. The man broke his foot when he landed.

In a press conference two days after the incident, Police Chief Joe Montoya said that early on in the investigation they determined that the fire was intentionally set. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are assisting in the arson part of the investigation. They are working with the Denver police to determine the cause of the fire.

Investigators have since converted it into a homicide investigation. Montoya said in a statement:

“We need to find these individuals or individual and we have to be able to hold them accountable for what they did on that day. Beyond the money, what I’m asking for is a heartfelt plea. I want people to look into their hearts…this was a family that was thriving. They were headed in the right direction.”

Regarding the possible motive, Chief Montoya does not want to assume anything at the moment. He said:

“We don’t want to get tunnel-visioned into a motive. There are some cases, on the front end it’s very evident as to what the motive for a crime. This is not one of those cases. We have to go into this very open-minded and look at every possible angle and if at some point we determine it was hate-motivated or bias-motivated then we will definitely share it with the community.”

He added:

“Djibril Diol was doing all the things he needed to do to provide his family with an amazing life in America and it was all cut short on that day.”

Moussa, Djibril’s brother is pleading for justice for his family. He said:

“That was my family. My everything. It hurts a lot to wake up and lose your family like that. Nobody deserves this. We just want justice.”

Djibril’s father, Abdouaye Djibril said:

“I lost my son. My good son. Son I love. A son that never give me a hard time.”

A small memorial is growing at the site of the burned home. Rachel Chin, who brought flowers to the memorial said:

“At first, you don’t know what to do with this. It’s gut-wrenching. You just never want that to be in your neighborhood. You never want that to be in your city. You don’t want to believe it’s possible.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up in support of the victims’ family to help cover the costs of sending the bodies back to Senegal for a traditional burial. The fundraiser has already raised $189,839. The fundraiser organizer said:

“Djiby, a young man with a promising future in civil engineering has left behind a community that he so deeply loved and cared for. We are saddened by the loss of a loving dad, a nurturing husband, and a caring brother to all of us.”

Washington D.C. – Police are searching for a suspect that they say left a man in critical condition due to setting the man on fire. Video footage has been obtained recently that showcases the suspect at-large.

According to police, security camera footage was obtained in the horrific act of the suspect setting something on fire on the sidewalk, and then using a canister of a flammable liquid to splash the flame – resulting in setting a man on fire who was sleeping on the sidewalk.

The Metropolitan Police Department recently released photos of the suspect they’re searching for in a press release from May 14th.

The incident happened sometime after 1:00 a.m. on May 13th, in Northeast D.C. outside of a Boost Mobile store. Video captured a male suspect, donning a hooded sweatshirt while carrying a canister of flammable fluid.

Authorities also allege the arson suspect was responsible for another incident about 45 minutes earlier, where he’d allegedly attempted to light another individual on fire roughly five blocks from where the sleeping victim was lit ablaze.

Police also suspect that the individual is responsible for setting a car on fire off of Florida avenue.

First responders tended to the victim who was set on fire, which they then transported him to a local hospital. The victim’s condition was listed as being critical at the time.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham spoke to a local news crew about the arson suspect that police are on the hunt for. Chief Newsham described the acts committed by the suspect as “demonic”:

“This is a guy who was intent on hurting people in a very, very demonic way and I hope if someone is out there watching, I hope you can take a look at this photo and let us know who he is so we can ensure that it doesn’t happen again.”

While Chief Newsham is aware that the community may be hyper-focused with the ongoing pandemic, he’s asking that anyone who can help identify this man to please contact police:

“The image that we have of his face is a very clear image. I understand a lot of people out in our community are distracted by COVID-19, but if someone can recognize him and give us a lead we want to get this guy off the street.”

According to the MPD press release, they’re currently citing the suspect as being wanted for two counts of assault with intent to kill (arson), two counts of arson, and one count of destruction of property. The MPD currently has a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Those with information that can assist with the investigation are asked to call (202) 727-9099.

Murdered officer's grave desecrated before headstone even placed

In what was described as a drive-by shooting, the suspect in custody could be facing charges anywhere from principal to second-degree murder.

Authorities revealed that 19-year-old Ronjae Steadman was in custody after police allege he was one of the individuals involved in the shooting that killed two and injured one on May 11th.

Police say that on the night of the incident, the shooting took place near Lebouf Street and Vespasian Boulevard at approximately 7:20 p.m.

The victims in the incident have not had their identities officially revealed at this point of the investigation, with authorities only saying that a 3-year-old boy and a 23-year-old male were killed in the shooting.

Along with the two fatalities, a 48-year-old woman was also injured in the shooting.

There is some speculation that the deceased victims are that of Isiah Adams, the 3-year-old, and James Estem, the 23-year-old. However, there has been no official confirmation of the aforementioned.

According to a news report by 4WWL, the two deceased victims and the injured woman are cited as being related via various social media postings:

“Despite the 20-year age difference between the slain victims, multiple social media posts described them both as sons of the woman who was shot.”

Police are still looking for additional suspects related to the shooting, as it’s been said that there were several other passengers in the vehicle that hosted Steadman when it fled from police.

Authorities were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle from surveillance footage captured nearby the shooting, which was described as a GMC truck by police.

When an officer spotted the GMC truck, the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over without success. A pursuit ensued, and only came to an end when Steadman reportedly crashed into a light pole at Holiday Drive.

Steadman and possibly up to three others fled from the crashed vehicle on foot, with Steadman allegedly carrying a .45-caliber pistol. Police say that’s when Steadman, along with one of his accomplices, held up a motorist at gunpoint and forced them to start driving.

Police began following the vehicle in question, which eventually pulled into a store parking lot located off of the 6400 block of General Meyer. From what police detail, the two suspects then exited the car’s backseat and began running on foot. The pursuing officer honed in on Steadman at the time, as he was still reportedly armed.

The officer in question eventually caught up with Steadman, who then surrendered himself when the officer drew down on him. Upon interrogation, police say that Steadman admitted to firing the weapon that was in his possession that evening at the site of the murders.

Steadman’s bail was set at $520,000 as of May 12th, but there’s been no word yet on the status of the other suspects believed to be involved as the investigation is still ongoing. Furthermore, police have not revealed any possible motive for the slayings.
