Coronavirus: Vallejo police officer tests positive for COVID-19 1

A Vallejo police officer tested positive for COVID-19 but is not believed to have infected anybody else, chief Jason Potts said in a statement Monday night.

The officer returned from traveling internationally earlier this month has been under self-quarantine ever since. He began exhibiting “mild” symptoms — described as dry throat, mild body aches, and fatigue — eight days ago and was tested two days later. He got his results back Monday, six days later.

“Our officer has not been to the Vallejo Police Department since returning from travel, nor has he had any contact with officers, employees, or citizens in the City of Vallejo since his trip,” Potts said. “He is currently still experiencing mild symptoms and will continue to be under self-quarantine until he is cleared to return by his medical physician.”

Solano County announced seven new cases Monday, bringing its total to 21.

The Vallejo officer appears to be the first public employee in Solano County with a confirmed case. In San Jose, a reserve officer is hospitalized. In Oakland, another officer tested positive. On Monday, the Milpitas Fire Department announced two firefighters had tested positive and three more were symptomatic.
