SAN JOSE — Volaris will launch new nonstop flights this year that will link San Jose and Mexico City, the air carrier said Monday, providing a welcome counterpoint to a dreadful travel year amid coronavirus-linked economic uncertainties.
The airline, using new anti-virus health and safety protocols, said it will add three weekly flights between San Jose International Airport and Mexico City in a move that could help connect families who might have become separated during months of pandemic restrictions.
“We’re excited to add Mexico City to the growing list of routes Volaris flies between San Jose and Mexico,” San Jose Aviation Director John Aitken said. “Mexico is an important business and leisure destination for many South Bay travelers.”
The three daily flights are slated to begin on Nov. 9, Volaris said.
“Volaris remains focused on providing the best travel experience at affordable prices so more people can travel to San Jose,” said Miguel Aguiniga Rodriguez, the firm’s markets development director.
Even before the announcement of the San Jose-Mexico City service, Volaris had been a major provider of flights between Silicon Valley and other destinations in Mexico. Volaris flies nonstop between San Jose and Guadalajara, Leon/Guanajuato, Morelia, and Zacatecas.
“We are confident that this new route will help more friends and relatives to reunite after so many months apart,” Rodriguez said.
