Those words atomize the narrow-minded, defensive reactions we’ve seen to the slogan “Black Lives Matter,” or to a player’s decision to kneel during the national anthem. Those words transcend sports and tap into basic rules of decency we were taught as kids, augmenting those rules in a way that forces us, as adults, to think deeper about what life looks like through someone else’s eyes.
