CAPITOLA — A Santa Cruz man believed to be driving drunk allegedly struck a Capitola police officer.

Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, 29-year-old Kolton Matosich, according to police was driving a 2009 Hyundai Genesis while under the influence of alcohol when he made a left turn in front of the police officer who was traveling on Capitola Road at 49th Avenue, hitting the officer’s departmental motorcycle.

Police said Matosich fled the scene in his car when a passing motorist followed him and facilitated his return to the scene. Matosich was ultimately arrested by the California Highway Patrol for felony DUI.

The officer sustained minor injuries.
