Black Friday, which this year falls on November 27, is not a federal holiday. Therefore, most coffee and fast-food chains, including Starbucks and McDonald’s remain open on the day after Thanksgiving. Some also offer special deals over Black Friday.
In some states, the day after Thanksgiving can be an official holiday, so some food and drink chains may be closed or on reduced hours on Black Friday in these states.
Several shops have also implemented new safety measures amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Contact your local branch for details on the specific guidelines in place before visiting.
Here we look at the hours of operation and deals at some food and drink chains on Black Friday this year.
Starbucks
Most Starbucks shops resume normal hours on Black Friday. Contact your nearest branch for exact timings before visiting.
Earlier this month, Starbucks unveiled a series of unique deals on offer through Black Friday and beyond.
The company announced in a statement: “Starting Nov. 16, the first customers who place a Starbucks order on Uber Eats will receive a code via email to share with their family and friends, gifting them $10 off their next Starbucks delivery order (taxes and fees still apply).”
From November 24, customers can bag a deal on Starbucks Sparkling Hot Tumblers, which are on sale for $9.95 each (originally $14.95). The tumblers, offered in a range of shades including pink, silver and gold, are available while supplies last at participating Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada.
“Starting Nov. 24-27 customers who download the app, become a member of Starbucks Rewards and spend $20, will earn 50 bonus stars (enough for a free brewed hot coffee, bakery item or hot tea at participating stores),” the company added.
McDonald’s
Most McDonald’s branches are also open on a normal schedule on Black Friday but the hours of operation vary by location. Contact your local venue to confirm specific hours before visiting.
The fast-food chain is also currently offering some exclusive deal available through its mobile app, including a free sandwich for those who download the McDonald’s app.
“Download and register for our App and get your choice of a Sausage McMuffin with Egg, a McChicken or a Cheeseburger free,” the company noted.
Other deals available through the app including large fries for $1 and a buy one, get one for $1 deal. “Buy a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish, or 10 pc. Chicken McNuggets and get another for $1,” the company noted.

Häagen-Dazs
Most Häagen-Dazs venues are also open for business as usual but the hours of operation vary by location.
While the company postponed its Free Cone Day this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, customers can still bag some free ice cream with their first purchase using the Häagen-Dazs app.
“Download the Häagen-Dazs Sweet Rewards app (from Google Play or the Apple App store) and receive a free mini cone or cup after your first purchase.
