A passenger on a flight that landed in Miami on Wednesday was taken into custody after opening a door and jumping onto the plane’s wing before it reached the terminal.
The passenger, identified as 33-year-old U.S. citizen Christian Segura by Local 10, opened an emergency door of the aircraft after it arrived at Miami International Airport from Cali, Colombia, at around 7.15 p.m., police said.
The plane was still pulling into its designated gate when he opened an emergency door and jumped onto the wing.
According to Local 10, Segura jumped off the wing when officers arrived and he was detained by agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
All passengers were able to get off the plane without any issues, a spokesperson for American Airlines said.
“While customers were exiting the plane at the gate, a passenger opened the over-wing emergency exit and jumped onto the ramp,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
“The customer was immediately detained by law enforcement officials. All other customers deplaned normally. We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
American Airlines and Miami International Airport have been contacted for comment.
