FREMONT – Of the 736 people screened for COVID-19 at Fremont’s free walk-up and drive-through testing sites this week, 44 tested positive for the virus, the city announced late Friday.
The sites were established three weeks ago, the city said in a news release, “to alleviate the impact on hospital emergency departments, provide quicker answers for first responders and frontline health care workers with COVID-19 symptoms and better inform individuals so they know to isolate and help slow the spread of the virus.”
The city said 278 of the 736 people screened this week were “essential service workers.” To date, the city has screened a total of 2,558 people, 120 of whom have tested positive for COVID-19.
The testing sites “have attracted people from throughout the Bay Area, requiring positive test results be reported to each appropriate county and added to the corresponding county’s daily positive case updates as the results are confirmed,” the city said.
To receive a test, a person must have or recently had a fever or any of the following conditions: recent exposure to a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case; cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; or other chronic health conditions or diseases.
The drive-through testing site at 7200 Stevenson Blvd. is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will operate through May 3.
