Two of the three officers shot during a standoff in Dorchester Tuesday night have been released from the hospital.

The third officer remains hospitalized, according to Sgt. John Boyle, a spokesman for Boston police.

An hours-long standoff with a suspect began after a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. reported a man with a gun at 29 Ferndale St. The suspect had barricaded himself in, and negotiations went on for “about five to six hours” to try to get him to surrender peacefully, according to acting Boston Police Commissioner Gregory Long.

It was during the afternoon that the suspect allegedly shot three officers who were in the building trying to negotiate. The suspect was then fatally shot when police returned fire.

A vigil was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pete’s Church in Dorchester to show support for the injured officers, according to WBZ News Radio.

Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins promised “a very deep investigation,” the Globe reported.

“In the last three days we’ve had multiple police officers harmed and attacked,” Rollins said, according to the newspaper, referring to an incident on Ingleside Street on Saturday that left a police officer stabbed in the neck and the suspect dead. “Emotionally disturbed people are everywhere … Just remember it is a very hard job to be a police officer.”
