Two Chicago police officers were shot and wounded early Monday while dispersing a crowd on the West Side.

One of the officers was hit in the foot and the other in the upper thigh in the South Austin neighborhood, according to police spokesman Tom Ahern.

Both officers were transported to Stroger Hospital and Ahern said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Police Superintendent David Brown told reporters at the hospital that the officers were dispersing a crowd when the shots were fired.
