Shuttered Soho hot spot The James is getting a facelift this spring, complete with a new name and restaurant, Page Six has learned.
Thor Equities acquired the hotel in 2017 and it was forced to shut down last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. David Rabin, who owns the hotel’s sceney pool hangout Jimmy at the James, is one of the partners at the helm of the new restaurant.
“They haven’t announced an official name for the restaurant or hotel yet, but they’re aiming for a relaunch in late April or May, in time for the pool,” an insider told Page Six.
The restaurant will take over the space previously occupied by David Burke Kitchen and Gitano, James Gardner’s seasonal hot spot that also holds space across the street on Canal.
“There’s a new greenhouse structure on the second floor where the new restaurant will be, and then there’s the outdoor space and the Jimmy is also being remodeled,” the insider said.
Meanwhile, Rabin recently partnered with Maneesh Goyal and Priyanka Chopra for the opening of their new Indian restaurant, Sona, in Gramercy Park. The chic spot officially opens on Friday but hosted family & friends dinners earlier this week, where Fern Mallis and Alina Cho were spotted.
