NYPD officer kills himself at Long Island marina

NYPD officer kills himself at Long Island marina 1

An NYPD officer killed himself inside his car on Long Island on Monday, police sources said.

The officer, a 9-year-old veteran of the force, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at a marina in Mastic Beach, according to police sources.

The officer worked for Transit District 20 — which is headquartered in Queens.

The cop is believed to be the fourth NYPD officer to commit suicide this year.

In 2019, 10 NYPD cops took their own lives, which was double the rate of past years.

The crisis led the department to create a new confidential suicide prevention program called “Finest Care” that offers free treatment from New York-Presbyterian psychiatrists and psychologists.
