McIngvale said his impromptu shelters have seen anywhere between 300 and 500 people a night, with more than 800 residents showing up in the daytime for coffee and snacks. The 70-year-old hometown hero noted that he’s purchased “10,000 gallons worth of diesel” to keep the power going, and that he’s also paid food vendors to bring in tacos, enchiladas, hamburgers, hot dogs and breakfast burritos.
