It’s the playoff matchup Giants fans have waited decades for: a showdown with the hated Dodgers. It became a possibility in 1995 when MLB instituted the wild card, but after 26 years of the expanded playoff format, the California rivals are finally facing off.
The Giants eked past the Dodgers to earn the NL West title, needing each of their major league-leading 107 wins to avoid the Wild Card Game. Los Angeles was slotted into the one-game round and bounced the St. Louis Cardinals out of the postseason with a walk-off home run from Chris Taylor late Wednesday night.
They’ll be riding that high, but the Giants have the advantage of four full days of rest after the regular season.
