Screenshots of the seven justices and various attorneys all huddled over computer monitors began making the rounds on social media Saturday. More than 3,400 people tuned into an online broadcast to watch the proceedings live.
The justices debated a case involving whether the state’s Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly had the right to ban gatherings in churches of more than 10 people. Republican state legislators oppose the move and say the decision should lie with them, the local Salina Journal reported.
The Kansas court agreed to hear the case Saturday so that a verdict could be rendered ahead of Easter Sunday.
