Hennepin County District Court Judge Peter Cahill dismissed the third-degree murder charge against Chauvin last fall, but a recent precedent-setting Feb. 1 ruling by the Minnesota Court of Appeals decided third-degree murder could apply when deadly force is directed at only a single person and not eminently dangerous to others.
