President Joe Biden has said he did not know about the raid of Rudy Giuliani‘s premises before it took place and vowed not to interfere in any investigation into the personal lawyer of ex-President, Donald Trump.
In an interview with NBC‘s show Today, Biden was asked whether he was aware ahead of time about the FBI raid of the home and office of Giuliani, which forms part of a probe into the former New York City mayor’s dealings with Ukraine.
“I give you my word I was not,” he said. “I made a pledge I wouldn’t interfere in any way, order or try to stop any investigation” involving the Justice Department.
“I learnt about that last night when the rest of the world learnt about it,” he added.
When host Craig Melvin asked Biden if he had been briefed on any other investigations into Giuliani, he replied: “No, and I am not asking to be briefed. That’s the Justice Department’s independent judgement.
“This last administration politicized the Justice Department so badly,” Biden said, adding, “the Justice Department is the people’s lawyer, not the president’s lawyer.”
Giuliani tried to find incriminating evidence about Biden and his son, Hunter, in Ukraine before the 2020 election. Giuliani’s attorney said his client denies any wrongdoing in his Ukraine dealings.
This is a developing story.
