The Jefferson County Board of Health on Thursday voted to rescind the public health order requiring mask in all public indoor settings, including schools and childcare settings, effective midnight Friday.

While the county’s mask order will expire at 11:59 p.m. Friday, any state or federal mask requirements will remain in place in the county, according to a Jefferson County Public Health news release.

A federal order requiring people to wear masks on public transportation and a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment order requiring unvaccinated people to wear masks in specific settings, including medical facilities, homeless shelters, prisons and jails, are among  examples of overriding orders.

“Additionally, individuals will still need to follow current CDPHE isolation and quarantine guidance, which includes wearing a mask for 5 days after the initial 5-day isolation period, when in indoor, public settings, including school settings,” the JCPH release said. “Any businesses or facilities that wish to require masks may continue to do so.”

Earlier this month, Jefferson County health officials had voted to end the mask order in indoor public spaces and at schools on Feb. 18.
