Just like most fans of The View, Whoopi Goldberg isn’t having it with this new conservative guest host. Today, the moderator went so far as to drag ex-host Meghan McCain into the situation, using her as a cautionary tale about being an anti-masker. While she didn’t mention her by name, Goldberg was pretty clear about who she was targeting. The shade popped up as the panel discussed changing mask mandates.
“Today, the CDC is looking to ease mask mandates by next week, if case numbers keep trending in the right direction, which is down. But a lot of Americans are done waiting,” Goldberg began. “Some people are warning democrats that keeping mask mandates for too long could be a political liability — but we just said they’re changing the mandates, so that’s going out the window.”
While the panelists agreed the CDC changes had been a little confusing to follow, when Joy Behar put most of the blame on the right wing, conservative guest host Lauren Wright came in to defend her party. While she had no way to prove Behar wrong, she bashed the left wing for their befuddling guidelines.
“Tell me how it’s science for the CDC to make behavioral and social recommendations,” Wright argued. “They get tough questions about, ‘Why do you have inconsistent messaging? How is it science when I sit down in a restaurant and am breathing and can take it off, and then I have to put it on when I’m going to the bathroom?’ These are not consistent rules!”
While Sunny Hostin attempted to argue with Wright, Goldberg shot everyone down and began an argument of her own as the show neared commercial break.
“I just want to throw something in there, because one of the things that everyone’s forgetting is that we knew nothing about this,” Goldberg explained. “So, every five minutes, they’re saying, ‘It’s this. It’s that. It’s this. It’s that.’”
That’s when Goldberg seemingly sunk a dig at her former guest host, Meghan McCain, who continuously chastised the CDC for mask mandates.
“We had somebody here who used to get very upset with people, who said, ‘You should be wearing a different kind of mask,’ or ‘You shouldn’t be wearing a mask,’” Goldberg recalled. “[The CDC] didn’t know. So I can give them that.”
McCain, who exited the show in August 2021, was known for throwing a bit of a temper tantrum about the idea of masks and social distancing.
“I think this is stupid, I don’t want to wear a mask anymore,” McCain once lamented last year. “I had always been really trepidatious about what the future held, because I felt like I had been, if not lied to — if that’s too extreme for all of you — just been given wrong information that was just amended and amended throughout this entire pandemic. America is mentally, emotionally, and spiritually sick as well as having the virus of COVID.”
Sounds a lot like what Whoopi was complaining about today, right?
