Starting Wednesday, Denver’s free COVID-19 testing site at the Pepsi Center will only be open on weekday mornings.
The site already was scheduled to be closed Friday through Monday, because of the Fourth of July holiday and a furlough of city employees.
Testing will be available from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday on days that aren’t part of a holiday weekend. The city said its partner, LabCorp, was running short of testing kits because of spikes in coronavirus cases in Arizona, Florida and Texas.
Kelli Christensen, spokeswoman for Denver’s Department of Public Safety, said that if more kits become available, the hours will be extended.
About 34,000 tests have been administered at the site, including about 2,000 on Monday, though it’s not known how many individuals have been swabbed. The city had encouraged anyone who might have been exposed to the virus, including people who had participated in civil rights protests downtown, to get tested.
