Of the 72 high schools in the Chicago Public Schools system that had police last year, 17 voted to remove them. The votes came after a longtime movement by youth in Chicago, primarily led by Black student activists, who have been organizing to get police out of schools. Yet only seven of the schools that succeeded are south of Madison Avenue, and only three have student bodies that are at least 35% Black.
