Almost a million people worldwide have confirmed cases of the coronavirus, according to the latest data.
The gut-wrenching numbers from Johns Hopkins University also show a death toll approaching 50,000.
At noon on Thursday, 965,246 people were confirmed infected across the globe while 49,180 people have died.
The US has more COVID-19 cases than any other country — with 217,263 confirmed to have been sickened by the virus, and 5,151 deaths.
The rising infected and death tally also comes as the virus’s economic toll mounts, with US jobless claims up nearly 10 million in the past two weeks, federal Labor Department stats revealed Thursday.
