The increasing number of coronavirus cases reported in Contra Costa County went up by more than two dozen again Thursday, as health officials put the total at 276.
In its Thursday update, health officials said the total number of confirmed cases went up by 26 since Wednesday. That’s the third-highest jump in confirmed cases over one day since the county reported its first positive case on March 4.

County officials did not report any additional deaths. The county’s total stands at three; officials have not provided details on the two more recent ones. The first in the county to die from COVID-19 was between 70 and 80 years old and had underlying health conditions, as well as recent travel history between the United States and Europe.
Officials also did not say how many people with COVID-19 were occupying county hospitals.
The numbers have gone up rapidly in the past two weeks, as health officials said they would during a March 20 press conference that announced the first death. Since that day, the county has added an additional 230 cases.
The total has jumped by 101 cases just since Sunday.
Health officials from seven Bay Area counties released an order March 17 requiring residents to shelter-in-place at residences unless seeking or providing essential services for at least three weeks. This week, that order was extended at least through May 3 with additional restrictions.
