Alameda County on Monday reported its first death caused by COVID-19, which has now taken the lives of 14 in five counties across the Bay Area.

The details of the patient’s age and whether he or she had any underlying health conditions were not immediately available.

Health officials also continued to add to their count of positive tests in the county, up to 122, including 10 from Berkeley, which operates an independent health department.

Alameda has seen some of the biggest increases of cases in the Bay Area. A week ago, when the first shelter-at-home mandate was put in place, it had confirmed 30 cases in the county. On Monday, four times that. And its first victim.

Across California, there have been 34 reported deaths and approaching 2,000 total cases. San Francisco’s 23 new positive tests Monday pushed the Bay Area over 800 total, and San Mateo continued its sharp uptick, as well, with 25 new cases.
