The California Highway Patrol shut down a five-mile section of CA-17 for an hour Saturday afternoon to investigate a shooting on the highway, according to published reports.

The shutdown lasted about one hour, starting at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The CHP announced on Twitter it had shut down the highway in both directions from Summit Road to Sugarloaf Road, near Scotts Valley.

The local news station KSBW reported that authorities were investigating a shooting on the freeway. The CHP written statement says the highway was closed “out of an abundance of caution for public safety.”

Calls to the local CHP office were not immediately returned.
