Boston University is requiring its basketball teams and all visiting teams to wear masks during games in an effort to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Both teams in the Boston-Holy Cross women’s matchup Monday night on BU’s campus wore masks, while the men’s team wore masks in its road game against Holy Cross in Worcester.
The Holy Cross men didn’t wear masks Monday as the hosts, but were required to wear them Tuesday in the return game in Boston. Stadium first reported Boston University had instituted a mask mandate.
Boston’s men’s team is believed to be the first to wear masks in-game. Some other women’s teams have had players wear masks this season, including DePaul and Creighton. The Patriot League canceled non-conference basketball games, so its teams began their seasons this week. The NCAA does not have a mask mandate.
