According to a sign posted on the door of Giacomo’s Ristorante in the South End, the popular neighborhood restaurant has closed due to a positive COVID-19 test.
“On October 6th, 2020 we found out that one of our employees tested positive for COVID-19,” the sign read. “Thankfully they are doing fine. Out of an abundance of caution to our team members and guests, we will remain closed until____.”
The sign did not display an opening date and calls to the restaurant went unanswered. As of Monday, the restaurant appeared to still be closed.
“The restaurant has been deep-cleaned and sanitized by a professional cleaning service,” the sign continued. “Additionally, all of our team members have been tested. We will reopen____. Safety has and will always be our number one priority and we look forward to welcoming you back when we re-open.”
The sign also indicated that disinfection was completed on October 6.
According to the Massachusetts COVID-19 safety standards, employers are required to notify their local Board of Health if they become aware of a positive test result in the workplace. The Boston Public Health Commission did not immediately respond to Boston.com’s request for comment.
Diners in the South End flock to Giacomo’s — which also has locations in the North End, Melrose, and Wayland — for its seafood-focused Italian fare. Plates come piled high with linguine and clams, lobster-stuffed ravioli, and grilled tuna steak, along with chicken parm, meatballs, and fried calamari. Prior to its temporary closure at 431 Columbus Ave., the restaurant had offered takeout and outdoor seating.
Giacomo’s other three locations are still open.
