Fifty staffers at a Staten Island middle school are being forced to quarantine after a school employee tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday, a DOE official said.

The dozens of staffers at IS 51 in Port Richmond Center are being forced to quarantine after they  disregarded social distancing protocols, according to a Department of Education spokesperson.

“This will be addressed. It takes the cooperation of everyone working together and closely following safety rules to stop the spread,” the spokesperson said.

Parents at the school were notified of the infected staffer in a Wednesday letter sent from the school’s principal.

The teachers under quarantine will be working remotely, the letter said.
