Man, it’s a hot one. Denver has set two records for high temperatures back-to-back and meteorologists expect the steamy weather to stick around — if not for the rest of the week, throughout the summer.

The good news is most of Denver’s pools are now open for people to keep cool.

Eight of the city’s 16 pools opened last week, and another three opened Monday, Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Cynthia Karvaski said. The remaining four won’t open at all this year; Congress Park Pool is under construction and the rest don’t have enough staff.

Those that are open, which include outdoor pools at Berkeley Park, Green Valley Ranch, Aztlan and Swansea, have no COVID restrictions, Karvaski said.

Hours and open days differ from pool to pool; full schedules are available online at denvergov.org. And even with just 11 open, it’s an improvement over last year, when none were.

Another way Denver residents can cope with the heat is to go to one of 10 open recreation centers that are acting as free cooling stations for free through Thursday. The same applies to all Denver Public Library locations except the Smiley and Central branches.

By Friday, temperatures are supposed to cool down, but only a bit. The National Weather Service says it’ll be in the low 90s through Sunday, with a short respite of 80 degrees on Monday before going back up.
