A police officer has died after a shooting following a traffic stop in the city of Holly Springs in Georgia.
A suspect in the “officer involved shooting” also died during the incident, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
In a statement on Thursday morning, the GBI wrote: “The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting at the request of the Holly Springs Police Department. A Holly Springs Police Officer has died. A male suspect has died.
“The incident started as a traffic stop. At this point, we are still working to gather details and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Paulding County Sheriff’s office posted a message of mourning on Facebook following the officer’s death.
“Please keep the Holly Springs Police Department (Georgia) in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of one of their officers who was shot and killed by a suspect last night,” this said.
Following the incident, Kristen Holloway, a reporter for WBSTV, tweeted: “Per the GBI, a Holly Springs Police Officer was shot and killed and one man is dead in Cherokee County. Investigators say this started as a traffic stop.”
The GBI has not yet revealed the names of either the officer or the suspect.
The investigation into incident is being carried out by the GBI.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has closed a section of the road between New Light Road and Little Road in Holly Springs so investigations into the incident can continue.
Further details of what led to the shooting have yet to be revealed.
