Mount Sinai execs take massive pay cut amid coronavirus crisis

Mount Sinai execs take massive pay cut amid coronavirus crisis 1

The executives running Mount Sinai Hospital are taking a 50-percent pay cut during the coronavirus crisis.

Dr. Kenneth Davis, the CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System, and 15 members of his “executive leadership team” will reduce their salaries “for as long as necessary so that these dollars can be directed to our front lines in this fight,” the hospital said in a statement noting “this does not come close to closing the hundreds of millions of dollars being lost per month.”

Davis’ compensation came to $5.6 million in 2018, including his salary of $2.4 million, a bonus of $1.5 million and $1.7 million in “other compensation,” according to the latest available tax filing.

Patients with COVID-19 have packed into the hospital system and staffers have complained about a lack of personal protective equipment which led some nurses at Mount Sinai West to don trash bags to keep themselves safe.

The Mount Sinai West president insisted there was “adequate protection.” But the Upper East Side-based system started a fund-raising drive asking donors to chip in to buy ventilators, gloves and gowns.

“We are never going to rest in acquiring the supplies and equipment that our staff need to keep them and their patients safe. This is the best approach in the face of an unclear duration of the pandemic,” the hospital said.
