Kaiser Permanente has placed about 2,200 employees nationwide on unpaid administrative leave because they’ve failed to respond to the company’s vaccine requirement.
“This number is declining daily, and as employees respond they may return to work,” Kaiser Permanente said in a statement released Tuesday.
In Colorado, more than 98% of the Kaiser Permanente workforce is “fully vaccinated or has submitted for a qualifying exemption,” according to the company. Less than 2% of Colorado employees were placed on leave.
Nationally, more than 92% of Kaiser Permanente employees have been vaccinated. That percentage compares to 78% on Aug. 2. Employees have until Dec. 1 to get a vaccination and return to work, the statement said.
“We hope none of our employees will choose to leave their jobs rather than be vaccinated, but we won’t know with certainty until then,” the company said. “We will continue to work with this group of employees to allay concerns and educate them about the vaccines, their benefits, and risks.”
Nationwide, Kaiser Permanente has about 304,220 employees, including 63,847 nurses and 23,597 physicians.
