Unemployment claims in the United States topped 6 million last week, according to a grim new report released Thursday that offered fresh evidence that the economic effects of the coronavirus have infected the job market.
California unemployment claims totaled more than 925,000 during the week that ended on April 6, on top of the 1.06 million that filed claims in the state during the week of March 28, the U.S. Labor Department reported.
Jobless claims in the United States totaled 6.61 million during the week that ended on April 6, which added to the 6.87 million in unemployment claims that were filed in the week ending on March 28.
