I am a black police officer and I want to know – whose life
mattered more? George Floyd or the black officer who was
murdered? 1

Drink it all even if it tastes too strong.

Here is a question from a person who some would now label an “anomaly,” a walking talking real life antithesis: A man who is both Black & Blue.

My question has been keeping me up all night. Who’s life mattered more?

1) George Floyd: Black Male – Killed by a  vicious criminal.

2) Federal Officer Patrick Underwood: Black Male – Killed by a vicious criminal.

Whose life mattered more?

No matter which order I put them in…I can’t seem to answer that question. But I am absolutely certain that YOU can.

You had the world’s ear. In unison, regardless of race, gender, politics, or religion. We all agreed on one thing: George Floyd deserved justice. The vicious criminal was arrested, and will get what’s coming to him.

You had the world’s eyes. You finally got everyone’s attention to see what you had been complaining about for the longest time. For the first time in a long time…the potential for the change you vehemently demanded, was the strongest it has ever been in recent history. The stage was set.

Then, as the world watched you on stage, something really strange happened.

Instead of presenting your arguments, you committed mass burglary. Burglarizing innocent businesses where people of all race and colors worked hard to provide for their family. Businesses who were already suffering from an equal opportunity pandemic that took no prisoners.

Instead of presenting your arguments, the world watched you commit mass arson. Setting on fire anything and everything you could…up to and including your fellow human beings.

Instead of presenting your arguments, the world watched you and your mob commit mass assault. Watching as you dragged out an innocent business owner, beat him to death, and left his twisted mangled bloody body laying in the middle of the street while you celebrated his demise.

Instead of presenting your arguments, the world, who is prepared to give you the change to a profession you vehemently demanded, watched you and the rest of your mob attempt and successfully commit mass aggravated battery (and now) multiple murders, of those of the very same profession you were supposed to be arguing against.

The world, those like me, who can not answer the question, now see your true intentions. The world, those who are truly disgusted with what happened to George Floyd, Federal Officer Dave Patrick Underwood, and the countless other casualties of this propagated race war, now see what you are trying to do.

You, those unlike me, unlike the world, those that CAN answer the question, those who profess to seek justice by causing injustice, those who claim to be targets of prejudice but label, harass, and target without prejudice.

Those who dishonor George Floyd and aggressively usurp the righteous message that his family broadcast of necessary and PEACEFUL protest, and instead riot and believe in absolute violence and destruction.

You, those who claim to fight for equality, but deep down inside, do not believe all lives are equal. You, the dividers, the messengers of hate and the instigators of this propagated race war.

The world is thankful…because now we see you.

Hate From Your Own Race

It sucks. Sometimes it’s hard to process. Other moments you ask yourself why you do the job. How do you keep going?

Last night I got berated for three straight hours for being a black cop.

Yes, three hours!

I heard every version of the N-word you could possibly think of. Hearing it wasn’t the issue. It’s who I heard it from.

I was the backup officer on a domestic battery in progress. Witnesses called 9-1-1 stating they observed a black man chocking and hitting a black woman.

When we arrived, they were still in a struggle and had to be separated. The black female had cuts and bruises all over her elbows and shoulder. She was disheveled.

Based on witness statements and interviews with both parties, we determined the male was the aggressor. He was arrested and charged with domestic battery.

I was always taught that women should be honored and treated with respect. Call it cliché, but I still believe that. In my heart I felt like we did a good deed, … helping a battered woman.

However, no good deed goes unpunished.

I, the back up unit, became the enemy of the women I was there to help. She was upset at me. She was disgusted at the sight of me. She hated my very presence. She hated what I stood for. She hated … that I was black.

I guess it’s something that I’ll never get used to. Even after seven years working as a cop, it stings to hear it just as much as it did on day one.

“Black pussy ass n*****. Tryna be the white man. You black and you just gonna stand there and not do nothing. You black bitch ass cop. You worse then the white cracker, f**k you.”

Hate from your own race. Being made out to be a traitor against your own kind. It never sits right, and I’ll never understand it.

The American culture today hates blue. Try being black and blue.

Jay Stalien grew up in the “hood” in Brooklyn, NY. He watched out-of-control black-on-black crime from childhood. As an adult he wondered who would help bring the violence to an end, so he stepped up to become a cop. He began his career with the Baltimore Police Department before a lateral move to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he currently works as a police officer.
