A Florida man twerked for police officers after being pulled over last week and was later tased and subsequently arrested on a series of charges, according to a report.
A bystander caught the entire interaction on video and later shared it to social media, where it has collected over 28,000 views.
Deputies with the Citrus County’s Sheriff’s Office pulled over 57-year-old Richard Wolfe on September 7 after he was caught using a median and a left turning lane to pass cars, reported the Chronicle Online. According to the arrest report obtained by the outlet, Wolfe exited his vehicle upon being pulled over.
But when officers told him to return to his car, he refused, “removed a knife from his waistband and threw it into the grass along the road.”
Eventually, Wolfe did return to his car, but it wasn’t an act of compliance — he decided to mock the officers by dancing for them.
“What are you scared of,” Wolfe said to the police, according to the Click Orlando. “I got knives; you got a gun!”
A video of the exchange recorded and shared to Facebook by Drew Benefield shows Wolfe bend over, place his hands on the road and twerk. Wolfe continues to mock the officer for nearly 20 seconds, before walking towards the middle of the road and dropping to his knees.
Officers then approach Wolfe and he again backs away. As he tries to flee, an officer tases Wolfe, but he continues to resist arrest.
The Chronicle Online reported that Wolfe was tased a second time, and refused medical treatment for his wounds.
Florida Statute 943.1717 permits officers to use stun guns in certain scenarios. In this instance, since Wolfe was actively resisting arrest and was attempting to flee or escape, the officer was within his rights to tase Wolfe.
“Great job Citrus County Sheriff’s Office,” Benefield said in his Facebook post. “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Great self-control by the arresting officer.”
According to public arrest records from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Wolfe was charged with reckless driving, resisting an officer without violence and failure to stop or fleeing a law enforcement officer after an ordered stop. He is currently being held on a $3,500 bond.
