OAKLAND — An engineering company has leased space in a downtown Oakland office tower in a deal that points to ongoing interest in the urban core of the East Bay’s largest city.
Degenkolb Engineers has leased 14,600 square feet on the fourth floor of the office tower at 601 City Center in Oakland.
The rental deal was arranged by commercial real estate brokers John Dolby of Cushman & Wakefield, Jonathan Allen of JLL and Mark Anderson of Avison Young.
“Oakland remains an attractive market for companies either repositioning or growing here or migrating from other markets,” said Tom McDonnell, a senior vice president with Shorenstein Properties, which developed and owns the 24-story office tower where Degenkolb leased space.
The 601 City Center building is the first brand-new office highrise built in downtown Oakland in more than a decade, according to Shorenstein Properties. Shorenstein completed the 24-story in 2019.
Degenkolb Engineers is relocating from a nearby site in downtown Oakland. It wasn’t immediately disclosed how many employees would be working in the newly leased offices.
Oakland’s “robust labor, amenities, transportation and accessibility, and housing” are all big magnets to draw companies to the East Bay city, McDonnell said.
