The high court based its decision Wednesday on a review of Chauvin’s debts and assets, as well as the Office of the Minnesota Appellate Public Defender’s prior conclusion that Chauvin was ineligible, Chief Justice Lorie Gildea wrote, adding that he may still seek out a public defender in the future.
