CEDAR PARK, TX — Multiple officers have been shot in the Heritage Park subdivision of Cedar Park, Texas.  Police are asking everyone to avoid the area.

According to the Cedar Park Police Department, said the officers were shot at while responding to a house call at a home off of Natalie Cove.

According to KVUE, their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Law Enforcement Today has learned that the subject is barricaded inside and multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene.

According to police, it remains an active situation.

The public is being asked to avoid Bagdad Road between Osage Drive and New Hope Drive, and the police and the fire department have closed the southbound lane of Bagdad at Heritage.

We’re told the Texas Department of Public Safety is on the scene standing by, ready to assist, and the Austin Police Department has offered aid as well.

According to witnesses, there were multiple gunshots and there is a large law enforcement presence.

This comes just a short time after a shooting in San Antonio.

That one took place at a flea market on August 16th and is currently being investigated by police. Thus far, an estimated five people were shot during the chaos in which police say that over 100 rounds were fired that morning.

Police are still trying to piece together what led to a shooting that took place at the Mission Market located in the 700 block of Moursund Blvd at 11:30 a.m. in San Antonio.

Al Ramon, the manager of the flea market, stated that the incident started during some sort of dispute between buyers and sellers at the market.

San Antonio Fire Department Battalion Chief Russell Johnson stated that investigators have recovered over 100 shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus commented on the investigation, stating that at least five people were shot during the gunfire, one of which was also the suspected shooter that started the chaotic scene.

Multiple shooters were involved in the case, thus creating the complexity. Police stated that the alleged perpetrator, security, to other parties exchanged rounds during the incident.

Chief McManus noted that several guns were recovered from the scene but did not yet divulge as to exactly how many.

What was noted by the chief was that no “innocent bystanders” were caught in any crossfire, which only means that those who actively participated in the firefight were among those injured.

There’s no insight yet as to whether anyone has been officially arrested in this case.

In other investigations, police in Georgia are seeking the public’s assistance in locating several suspects involved in a mass shooting in early July. 

Over the Fourth of July weekend, the Atlanta Police Department responded to a mass shooting in which fourteen people were injured, two of them died. 

Police have now released video surveillance of the area and are asking the public’s help in identifying four people who may have fired the shots.

The original incident occurred on July 5th around 1am on Auburn Avenue.  A large crowd had gathered in the area to watch fireworks when someone struck a pedestrian with a car.  It is unknown if that vehicle crash was accidental or intentional. 

The crash caused immediate anger with the people in the crowd who began to argue and fight.  Soon after the fighting started, members of the large group began firing their guns resulting in fourteen people being shot. 

Members of the crowd drove the injured to the hospital and did not wait for an ambulance.  Two of those shooting victims, 32-year-old Erica Robinson and 20-year-old Joshua Ingram succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

This shooting was one of many that happened over the holiday weekend in Atlanta.  LET reported when a 9-year-old was shot along with two other people in East Atlanta Village.   This shooting occurred around 9:30pm at the intersection of Flat Shoals and Glenwood Avenues.

Upon arrival, officers only were able to locate one of the shooting victims.  While they were investigating, they were notified that two other shooting victims were at the hospital.

One man had been shot in the buttocks, another shot in the hand, and the child was shot at least four times.  Thankfully, all the victim’s in this case were expected to survive. 

This shooting seemed to stem from an argument between two groups of people.  At some point during the argument shots were fired which struck all three victims.  A spokesman for Atlanta Police, Steve Avery, said:

“I am not sure how many shots were fired and right now the investigators are still working to determine if it was one shooter or more than one.”

As of the writing of this article, there do not appear to be any updates on this case. 

Also this week, we learned more about the attack that left two other officers murdered.  Here are the details:

MCALLEN, TX– On July 11th, two McAllen police officers were shot killed when responding to a call at a house. The suspect then shot and killed himself.

According to a custodial death report filed by the McAllen Police Department for the 23-year-old suspect, since identified as Audon Ignacio Camarillo, the person who called 9-1-1 told authorities the man had attacked his mother and was possibly intoxicated.

The report stated:

“The reporting person (RP) called the McAllen Police Department and reported that ‘her mother in-law was attacked by he son at 3521 Queta.’ The RP requested to make contact with responding officers at the LEOS Store (at Ware Rd.). The RP further reported that the suspect was intoxicated under the influence of narcotics.”

The officers, Officer Edelmiro Garza, 45, and Officer Ismael Chavez, 39, had responded to the home and when they tried to enter, Camarillo opened fire.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said in a statement:

“They were doing their job. That is what they were supposed to do. The person was a suspect of the incident, met our officers at the door and shot at both officers. Both officers suffered fatal wounds and they have both passed away as a result.”

He added:

“The officers never had a chance to suspect deadly assault on them, much less death.”

The custodial report also says that the officers were both shot above the collar bone. In the report, it says that Chavez and Garza made contact with the 9-1-1 caller at another location at 3:30 p.m., and then went to the house at 3:51 p.m. Four minutes later, the RP called back to say, “officer down.”

At 3:57 p.m., a sergeant who arrived on scene reported “both officers are down.” At the time of the sergeant and other responding officers arriving on scene, the suspect had not yet shot himself.

According to the report:

“At 4:03 p.m., responding officers reported the suspect ran back inside the residence then outside and the back inside. At 4:05 p.m., responding officers reported the suspect is outside now and that he shot himself.”

Had Camarillo not succumbed to his gunshot wounds, he would have faced two counts of capital murder of a peace officer. The suspect had a history of arrests including driving under the influence, fleeing from officers, assault, and marijuana use.

Chavez was with the department for two years and Garza had eight years in.

Rodriguez said:

“These are difficult moments. The officers came here to maintain peace. Instead, they were taken down by gunfire.”

He added:

“Our department and our officers stand by each other. Together we’re strong and I think that’s what will help us through these next few weeks.”

According to reports, as of mid July, there have been 65 line-of-duty deaths among U.S. Law Enforcement officers. Most were killed in firearms-related incidents while other officers were killed when investigating a suspicious person or activity. Below are a few stories of these individuals who lost their lives while serving and protecting their communities.

Police Officer Anthony Dia’s end of watch was July 4, 2020. He was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance at a local home improvement store. As Officer Dia approached the intoxicated suspect, he opened fired on the officer. 

Police Officer Cody Holte’s end of watch was May 27, 2020. He was shot and killed after assisting deputies from the Grand Folks County Sheriff’s Office, as they served an eviction notice at an apartment. The suspect shot at officers from a bedroom. 

Police Officer Katie Thyne’s end of watch was January 23, 2020. She was killed after being dragged by a vehicle following a traffic stop. Officer Thyne is the 6th officer to be killed in a traffic-related incident this year.

Here is another article from Law Enforcement Today about the tragic loss of the McAllen officers:

MCALLEN, TX– Law Enforcement Today reported on Officer Ismael Chavez, who was murdered this week in McAllen. Savannah Chavez is Officer Chavez’ daughter. Yesterday, she posted on Twitter about mourning the recent loss of her father.   

Grieving the tragic and untimely death of her father, Savannah tweeted another heart-felt post, this time saying that her father died a hero and that she loved him.

What happened next was not what she or anyone else would have ever expected.

Instead of receiving heart-warming responses from others sympathizing with her loss, a large portion of the replies and quote-tweets were from antagonistic Antifa and Black Lives Matter-aligned accounts mocking her and celebrating the death of her father.

Some even lectured her on how her father wasn’t really a good person.

The tweet became so overwhelmingly hostile that Savannah has since deleted it.

Savannah used the hashtag #bluelivesmatter, which angered some. Aside from saying things like “blue lives do NOT matter,” and “fuck blue lives” to this poor grieving girl,  “ACAB,” or, All Cops are Bastards, were also found in many users’ responses to her tweet. 

Others responded by saying they were glad to know that her dad had finally become a “good” cop, stating that only good law enforcement officers are the dead ones.

Images, videos, and tweet replies came pouring in. 

Some users commented to Savannah that this was “not the time” to post on her father’s death.

Savannah was simply mourning the death of her beloved father, the same way many other human beings would do if they were in the same situation.

Instead of respecting that, these commenters made it seem like she had some other choice, as if she should mourn the loss of her father at a later date, when it was more convenient to those protesting against her father’s profession.

Officer Chavez served two and a half years with the McAllen Police department and was 39-years-old when he was shot and killed serving and protecting his community. He was a former economics and chemistry teacher and a loving father.

Here is what the tweet originally said:

“Words cannot describe the pain I’m in, but I’m glad my dad is at peace. You were an amazing man and anyone who ever came across you knew that. I’m going to miss you so much. You died doing what you loved most, you died a hero. I love you daddy. See you soon. #bluelivesmatter”

Officer Chavez and his partner officer Garza were killed while answering a domestic disturbance call Saturday afternoon.

During a press conference, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said:

“The officers were shot by a suspect as they approached the door of a home. The officers never had a chance to suspect a deadly assault on them, much less death, at that moment in time.”

He continued:

“These are difficult moments. The officers came here to maintain peace. Instead, they were taken down by gunfire.”

 As Savannah, Chavez’s daughter said, her father is a hero. It is disheartening, disturbing, and unimaginable that she received the heartless and soul-less comments that she did. Below are just a few of the horrible things people tweeted in response to her tweet, and some responses to the hurful ignorance.

Savannah’s cousin wrote on Twitter:

“For literally ANYONE that is giving MY cousin sh*t for grieving her FATHER, can literally go to f*cking hell. This man was the most loving and caring person anyone could ever meet! It’s pathetic how people can be so unsympathetic to a girl that is trying to commemorate her father.”

Another person defended Savannah by saying:

“She never said it in response to Black Lives Matter. She said it to honor one man. Her dad. Show some f*cking compassion.”

And again from another person:

“What is wrong with people…sorry for your loss sweetheart. Thank you for your dad’s service, may he rest in peace.”

Due to original tweet being removed, the many other hundreds of comments, even the kind-hearted ones from normal people, can no longer be viewed on Twitter. 

Here’s Law Enforcement Today’s original report on the officers murdered in McAllen.

Horrific news tonight out of Texas, where two police officers were ambushed and killed.

Police say the two McAllen police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty this afternoon by a man who moments later shot and killed himself.

It happened at around 3:30, when the officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home near Queta Avenue and South 35th Street near Los Encinos Park.

Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said that when the officers went to the door of the home, they were immediately gunned down when they tried to enter.

He said that other police officers drove by to check on the situation, saw what had happened, and also saw a man with a gun.

They screamed at him to drop the gun – but he instead turned it on himself.

The McAllen Police Department identified the officers as Edelmiro Garza, who was an 8 1/2 year veteran, and Ismael Chavez, who had been with the department about 2-1/2 years.

They said the killer was 23-year-old Audon Ignacio Caramillo.

“We have lost two brave public servants who sought only to keep peace in our City,” Rodriguez said via text message Saturday, according to The Monitor.

Lt. Christopher Olivarez is the spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

He said the officers were shot in that area and were transported to area hospitals – but they did not survive.

DPS sent troopers to the area to secure the scene after the McAllen Police Department asked for assistance, Olivarez said.

Earlier this week, two officers were shot in Reno, Texas.

A Sheriff”s Deputy and a police officer were shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Thursday. 

The shooting occurred at 6:12PM while officers were responding to a call in the 800 block of Harris in Reno. The call was placed by a mother who said her son had a gun and was threatening to shoot people.

Officers were shot at as they arrived at the residence of the suspect Lain Christian. A Sheriff’s Deputy was shot multiple times and an officer was shot once in the arm. The  Deputy was transported to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth while the officer was taken to Azle Hospital. Both have since been released and are expected to make a full recovery.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said in a statement:

“We are grateful our deputy is doing well. We expect him to make a full recovery and we anticipate his return to our team.”

A third officer narrowly missed being shot when a bullet hit his stun-gun holster and absorbed the impact.

Reno Police Chief Tony Simmons told NBC5:

“What goes through your mind when you hear that one of your officers has been shot? It’s, you work with these guys day in and day out. Of course, you’re going to respond as quickly as you can, and hope everything is okay.

We got lucky this time. The world is a dangerous place. This could have turned out a lot different for those officers if things had been just a slight bit different.”

Christian barricaded himself inside of the house once police arrived. A seven hour standoff ensued between Christian and officers from the Reno Police Department, Springtown Police Department, and the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.

The standoff ended at approximately 1:40AM when a fire was started inside of the home. Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the fire.

The mother of Christian, who placed the 911 call, escaped through a window and received treatment at a local hospital for leg lacerations.

Christian also shot his teen sister, Sierra Christian, to death in the house. The burned body of the 17 year old was found as detectives went through the house Friday morning. Christian was found dead with self inflicted gunshot wounds in the bushes near the home.

Chief Simmons said in a news conference on Friday:

“This was a tragedy. Crime happens everywhere. We never expected this in Reno.”

After the conference Simmons said:

“With everything going on in the world if people realized these officers are protecting you, they don’t have to do this. It was disturbing, to say the least, the officers stood up, did their jobs and protected the public.” 

Officials report that the Texas Rangers have now taken over investigations. Information regarding the story is still emerging.
